Yeah so...Being in shape is Important.

My son was born when I was around 37 years old. To say I had him later in life is an understatement. While I believed myself to be in halfway decent shape, having a child in your later years will definitely change your perspective. This little dude at 5 yrs old is ACTIVE. He has all the energy in the world. Sometimes when he wants to play, I can go for a while and not be tired. Other times, I am exhausted and I don’t feel up to playing at all.
What they don't tell you, is that kids don't stop playing...hardly at all. Especially when their dad is as fun as I am. He has gotten to that age that he doesn't really have a filter either. The insults flow real naturally too from this one 😑. Let's see...he has told me that my snoring sounds like a hippo. He has also told me about the size of my stomach and that he wants me to have muscles and not be fat. Oh, ok son, thanks. 😐🙄
I currently am taking medication for high cholesterol and high blood pressure. This condition comes from mainly your diet, and lack of physical activity. While I don't eat fried foods all the time, I can stand to be more active and be more cautious about the type of foods, and the portions of food that I consume. My goal is to not be on any medication at all.
Working on 3rd shift can be challenging to your sleep schedule and I often use energy drinks to stay awake sometimes. Recently, I had a situation that had my blood pressure spike upwards, and I had an elevated heartbeat. It was pretty scary, so I decided to take myself to the emergency room.
I found out that I was dehydrated. If you're dehydrated, even slightly, your heart has to work harder to pump blood, which can increase your heart rate and cause an irregular heartbeat or palpitations. Dehydration thickens your blood and makes blood vessel walls constrict which can cause hypertension, or high blood pressure, and strain your heart. I had to realize that I am not young anymore and that I have to really take my health more seriously.
I want to be here for my family for as long as possible. I will not be able to do that if I don't get more active, and more conscious of what I eat. I have been purposely drinking more water, along with incorporating more physical activity. Even if it's just a walk around the neighborhood. I told Carter when he gets home from Indiana that we will be doing exercises together, lifting weights, riding bikes, and all other fun kinds of stuff.
I value our father/son time so much. There is a lot of work to be done so that I can keep up with this dude. I don't want to be the father that gets tired quickly and always has to take a break. I also want to get rid of this dad's body.
So, if you see me with a Porkchop sandwich in one hand and a beer in another, hold me accountable...but damn that sounds good.
